Queen Elizabeth Writes a Heartfelt Message Regarding Australia's Wildfires

From Harper's BAZAAR

  • The Queen has released an official statement regarding the current wildfires in Australia, which have had a "devastating impact."

  • Australia's wildfires may have already killed over half a billion mammals, birds, and reptiles, including approximately 8,000 koalas.

  • Other members of the royal family have also taken to social media to share their support for all of those affected.

Australia is currently fighting a "mega blaze," per CBS News, with approximately 15 million acres having already burned in the terrifying bushfires, according to FOX. People have been forced to flee their homes, and there are growing casualties reported throughout some of the most populated areas of Australia.

Australia's animal population has been hit particularly hard by the raging fires, with slower creatures such as koalas finding it difficult to escape the ravaged landscape.

Following the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's message for the Australian people, Queen Elizabeth has addressed all of those affected by the devastation. The official royal family Twitter account wrote, "Her Majesty The Queen has sent a message of condolence to the Governor General of Australia, Governor of New South Wales, Governor of Queensland, and Governor of Victoria and to all Australians."

The statement itself said:

"I have been deeply saddened to hear of the continued bushfires and their devastating impact across many parts of Australia.

My thanks go out to the emergency services, and those who put their own lives in danger to help communities in need.

Prince Philip and I send our thoughts and prayers to all Australians at this difficult time.

Elizabeth R."

Kate Middleton and Prince William shared their support with a tweet directing followers to a list of resources to help all of those affected by the tragedy.
