From Town & Country

Queen Elizabeth has all of the U.K. and the British Commonwealth under her purview—but that doesn't mean she isn't preoccupied with the details.

At her royal engagement yesterday—the first she's attended since returning from summer vacation up in Scotland—the Queen revealed that she is always concerned about one small aspect of her duties. The British monarch sends every citizen who turns 100 a hand-signed card—but after they're dropped in the mailbox, it's out of her hands.

She was speaking with a 100-year-old World War I veteran, Ken Souter, when the Queen said that she was "glad to see" he'd received his centenarian cards. She added that she's "always worried" about whether or not they'll arrive on time, according to royal reporter Rebecca English.

This isn't the only time Queen Elizabeth has spoken about sweating the small stuff. Earlier this year, she spoke about her preoccupation with Britain's fickle weather. During one of her annual garden parties, which she hosts on the Buckingham Palace grounds, the Queen said she was relieved that it didn't rain. "Well, you do rather hope the sun shines as when you invite 8,000 people to have tea on your lawn," she said to a guest, per People. "It can be a bit of a worry."

Even if your "lawn" happens to encompass the grand gardens of a royal palace, no one likes to see their party rained out. A bit of a worry, indeed.
