Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne made a rare joint appearance today.

The two visited a hospice to open its new center Friday morning. The royals travelled the short distance from the queen's Windsor Castle home to Maidenhead to tour the Thames Hospice and meet staff, volunteers, and a patient.

For more than 30 years, the hospice has been providing palliative and end-of-life care and support to people across East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. Its services are free for those who need care, and more than 50% of the £13 million annual running costs come from charitable support.

For the outing, Queen Elizabeth wore a powder-blue long-sleeve shift dress with a navy and white floral print. She stayed comfortable in a pair of low black heels with golden buckles, carried a black bag, and accessorized with her classic pearl necklaces and earrings, as well as a brooch with light-blue gems and white diamonds. Due to her mobility issues, the monarch walked with a cane as she greeted staff.

Princess Anne, meanwhile, opted for a brown and white plaid button-up coat dress, which she paired with black heels that resembled her mother's, and a small black crossbody bag with a golden chain. She accessorized with simple pearl drop earrings.

This is the monarch's second public engagement this week. On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth celebrated the achievements of the NHS across the decades by awarding the institution the George Cross during a ceremony she hosted at Windsor. The 96-year-old head of state was joined by the Prince of Wales for event where health leaders from the four home nations were each honored with the medal.
