Married for nearly three-quarters of a century, Britain's Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, shared a profound, and very public, bond. From their 1947 wedding onward, a great many of the couple's milestone relationship moments were shared with the people of their country, and their 50th wedding anniversary was certainly no exception. With the 1997 occasion making an appearance in the second half of The Crown's final season, we're taking a look back at a few moments from the real life celebration of the royal couple's golden anniversary.
Ahead of the royal couple's 50th anniversary, their youngest son, Prince Edward, joined his parents at the Royal Festival Hall for a gala concert marking the occasion.
Elizabeth and Philip wed on November 20, 1947 when the 21 year old Elizabeth was still princess and heir tot he throne.
Queen Elizabeth waved from the royal box at the concert.
"I think the main lesson we have learned is that tolerance is the one essential ingredient in any happy marriage... You can take it from me, the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance," Philip joked in a speech marking their anniversary.
Elizabeth and Philip's only daughter, Princess Anne, was also in attendance.
The British royals weren't the only ones to make an appearance at the concert. Then-King Juan Carlos, and Queen Sofia of Spain were also guests, along with their daughter, Infanta Elena, her husband at the time Jaime de Marichalar, then-Crown Prince Felipe (now King Felipe VI) of Spain, and the newlywed Infanta Cristina and her husband Inaki Urdangarin all came to pay their respects to the royal couple.

King Constantine of Greece—Prince Philip's first cousin and the last monarch of Greece—also joined, along with his wife Queen Anne Marie, their son Crown Prince Pavlos and his wife Crown Princess Marie Chantal, and Princess Alexia.
The Swedish monarch, King Carl Gustaf, and his wife Queen Silvia were also there.
Norway's King Harald, and Queen Sonja.
Elizabeth's niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, and nephew, David, now the Earl of Snowdon, were among the guests, along with their spouses Daniel and Serena. Sarah and David are the children of Elizabeth's only sister, Princess Margaret.
On the day of their 50th anniversary, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh returned to Westminster Abbey, where they were wed, for a service of thanksgiving.
Later that evening, the royal couple also hosted a formal dinner to celebrate the occasion.
"He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years," Elizabeth said of her husband in a speech that evening, "and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know."
Shortly after their official anniversary, the couple were also welcomed, along with their eldest son, then-Prince Charles, to the House of Lords for a celebratory dinner hosted by the Privy Council.
