Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles React to the Birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William's Third Baby

The royal family has a lot to celebrate this year with multiple weddings on the horizon, but they're kicking it off with the arrival of Kate Middleton and Prince William's third baby.

The child was born on Monday, April 23, and as is customary, Kensington Palace released a statement from Queen Elizabeth and the royal family in response to the birth:

Prince Charles also released statement on behalf of himself and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

“We are both so pleased at the news,” he said. “It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”

These follow a grand tradition of royal birth statements. For William and Kate's eldest child, Prince George, it came in the form of multiple statements. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were "delighted at the news" of George's birth.

When Prince George was born, Prince Charles put out a similar note that talked about grandparenthood.

"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy," he wrote. "Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."

Similar statements were released when Princess Charlotte was born.

"The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news," Charlotte's birth statement read.
