As the United Kingdom gears up for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee weekend, the Queen is back to making regular public appearances—albeit ones that are not announced in advance. The 96-year-old British monarch made a surprise visit to the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show, and was driven around in a golf cart.

"Adjustments have been made for the Queen’s comfort," Buckingham Palace said in a statement regarding her use of the buggy.

Queen Elizabeth, the patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, last attended the event in 2019. (The event was canceled in 2020, and postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) In 2019, she visited the show with her grandson, Prince William, and granddaughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.

Her appearance at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show follows a spate of public appearance in recent weeks. Earlier this month, she made a surprise outing to join her son Prince Edward at the official opening of the Elizabeth line, and the Queen made two surprise appearances at the Royal Windsor Horse Show to watch her granddaughter Lady Louise compete and to watch the "A Gallop Through History" performance.
