Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral: How to Watch As the World Mourns A Monarch

After Queen Elizabeth II’s death at the age of 96, the world will gather to mourn during the late monarch’s funeral at Westminster Abbey on Sept. 19, starting at 11 a.m. BST/6 a.m. EST. The Queen will be buried at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where her late husband, Prince Philip, will be moved to join her.

Many royals and public figures are expected to attend the funeral, including Queen Elizabeth II’s family; President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden; Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; President Emmanuel Macron of France; and numerous other representatives from countries including Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, Poland, Austria, Turkey, Israel, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and more.

Thousands have already lined up to pay respects to the Queen’s coffin at the Palace of Westminster, where her body will remain until the funeral on Monday. Still millions more are expected to watch the ceremony itself, which will be broadcast on multiple networks around the globe.

Viewers in the U.S. will be able to watch the funeral live on NBC, CNN, ABC, and Fox News, while those in the U.K. can watch on BBC One, BBC News, and Sky News. Multiple YouTube channels are also expected to stream the events, including channels run by Sky News and the BBC.

Following the funeral, Queen Elizabeth’s coffin will be placed on a gun carriage and driven from Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square in London, and then west to Windsor Castle. She will be buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, the same venue as her father, King George VI; her mother, Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the queen mother; and her sister, Princess Margaret. The Queen herself commissioned the chapel in 1962, following the death of her father.

Prince Philip also resides in St. George’s Chapel, but in the main Royal Vault. His body will be moved to the King George VI Memorial Chapel to rest beside his wife.
