Queen Elizabeth II's Vintage Rolls Royce Is Up for Sale
Queen Elizabeth II is ready to part ways with her Rolls Royce after more than six decades of using the vintage vehicle for royal tours around the world and in the U.K., The Telegraph reports.
Her Majesty's 1950 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette is one of only 18 models ever made between 1950 and 1956. The British automobile was manufactured to be used by the British royal family and heads of state. Because of its rare qualities, the Queen's personal vehicle will reportedly be sold at auction for up to £2 million (approximately $2.6 million).
The Queen's Phantom IV has been used by the royal household since the late 1950s, particularly by the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip. The royal couple have been photographed at various events arriving in the vehicle.
The Rolls Royce is the car of choice for many other members of the royal family, including its newest addition, Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex and her mother, Doria Ragland, arrived at St. George's chapel for her royal wedding to Prince Harry in a Phantom IV similar to the Queen's personal car. It was one of the other 17 models ever made.
According to The Telegraph, the Queen's car will be sold as part of a collection of royal cars that will also be auctioned off, including a 1960 Rolls-Royce Phantom V ‘High Roof’ State Limousine that was often used by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, a 1979 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine that was loaned to the Royal family, and a 1985 Rolls-Royce ‘Centenary’ Silver Spur Saloon that was used by Princess Diana on occasion.
Bonhams, a privately owned British auction house, is hosting the auction at the Goodwood Revival Sale on September 8. The Goodwood Revival is a three-day annual festival that celebrates motor racing.
