Queen Elizabeth Is Hiring a Planner to Work on the Buckingham Palace Renovation
As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly search for a home in Los Angeles, the ten-year $479 million renovation of Buckingham Palace continues. Now, Queen Elizabeth II is looking for a planner to help with its historic overhaul.
Since the early stages of the renovation’s planning works are complete, Buckingham Palace needs someone to support the strategic planner and facilitate communication between the in-house Programme Management Office and the contractors and consultants (we imagine there are A LOT for a reno of this scale). To keep the program on track, the job entails monitoring interfaces and identifying conflicts. In other words, your organizational skills have to be top-notch.
Other qualifications? You should have planning experience in a construction project, ideally with historic buildings. You have to be fluent in mechanical and engineering installation practices, Microsoft Office, and programming software like Asta PowerProject. As for soft skills, besides being extremely organized, you should be a good verbal and written communicator, resourceful, and, most importantly, you have to be able to take initiative and solve problems.
A permanent, full-time commitment, the position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Depending on experience, the starting salary is £38,000, or around $49,000. You’ll also get a comprehensive benefits package, a 15% employer contribution pension scheme, and a rage of catering and recreational facilities. And don’t forget, you’ll have a hand in restoring an iconic building that hasn’t been renovated since the 1950s.
