Queen Elizabeth Is in “Good Spirits” Amid Brief Hospitalization

Queen Elizabeth II spent a night in the hospital this week but is now back at home in Windsor Castle. Buckingham Palace confirmed to the BBC and other outlets that the Queen spent Wednesday night in the hospital for “preliminary investigations” and returned home on Thursday at lunchtime, where she was “in good spirits.” The palace’s full statement reads:

Her hospital stay is reportedly not related to the coronavirus.

The news comes amid the Queen canceling a trip to Northern Ireland on Wednesday. She traveled by car to King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone and was seen by specialists. The BBC reports that this is the first time Her Majesty has stayed in the hospital since 2013.

The Queen is said to be back to “light duties” at home, and a Buckingham Palace spokesman said on Wednesday that she’d “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days” and was “disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland.” The palace also said, “The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland and looks forward to visiting in the future.”

Her next major event is leading a royal delegation to the Glasgow COP26 climate change summit, which is in two weeks. Here’s to hoping the Queen is feeling better soon!
