Queen Elizabeth’s Corgis Used to Snitch on Prince Harry, According to Memoir

From detailing his close bond with sister-in-law Kate Middleton to reliving his final moments with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry offered readers an honest (yet emotional) glimpse into his life in his bombshell memoir, Spare, which debuted on January 10. The Duke of Sussex, 39, told countless never-before-heard stories about his relatives—and the family pets.

Per BuzzFeed, Harry revealed an interesting tidbit in the book about his late grandmother’s corgis, who have since found a new home following her death. According to the royal spare, her beloved dogs would “snitch” on him every chance they got.

The Duke of Sussez shared in the memoir that he and his father, King Charles, are both sensitive to heat. When they would eat in Sandringham’s “subtropical” dining room, the pair would wait for the queen to turn around, and “then one of us would jump up, sprint to a window, crack it an inch. Ah, blessed cool air. But the corgis always betrayed us. The cool air would make them whimper, and Granny would say: Is there a draft? And then a footman would promptly shut the window.”

He continued, “My mother used to say that being around Granny and the corgis was like standing on a moving carpet, and I used to know most of them, living and dead, as if they were my cousins.”

And if that weren’t enough, the duke shared that the corgis would often take the elevator with the queen up to her bedroom whenever she stayed at Balmoral Castle.

After the queen’s death, she left behind two corgis in addition to one dorgi, a canine mixed with a corgi and dachshund, and a cocker spaniel. Following her passing, a source close to Prince Andrew (aka the Duke of York) revealed to CNN that the corgis would now live with him in Windsor, along with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

Queen Elizabeth’s love for corgis can be traced back to her childhood. She first developed a deep fondness for her father King George VI’s dog, Dookie. Throughout her life, the monarch owned 30 corgis, many of which were descendants of the first corgi she owned back in 1944.
