From Town & Country

When Queen Elizabeth is on her annual summer holiday at Balmoral Castle, her schedule is typically cleared of public engagements. But royal watchers can always count on seeing the British monarch driving to church on Sundays with whichever family members happen to be in town that week.

Today, for example, the Queen was accompanied by Prince Andrew as she traveled to Crathie Kirk, a small Church of Scotland parish near Balmoral. The Duke of York's daughter Princess Beatrice was also reportedly in attendance at services, as were Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

Prince Andrew's appearance this morning comes just one day after his former associate Jeffrey Epstein died in jail by apparent suicide. Last month, Epstein was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. He subsequently pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. Had he been convicted of the charges, he would have faced a maximum prison sentence of 45 years.

It's unclear exactly when Prince Andrew and Epstein became friends, but according to the Guardian, they were introduced in the '90s by Ghislaine Maxwell. It's unknown if the two men were in contact prior to Epstein's arrest.

When asked by the Daily Mail if Prince Andrew had any comment about Jeffrey Epstein's death, Buckingham Palace responded with a statement .

"This relates to proceedings in the United States, to which The Duke of York is not a party," it read.

"Any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue."
