Queen Elizabeth's Famous Corgis Are Finally Getting the Movie They Deserve
The Queen loves corgis, and apparently so does everyone else. According to the American Kennel Club, they're currently the 15th most popular breed in America. So it was only a matter of time before someone cashed in on the existing fan base-and I'm so glad they did.
Though the movie has yet to get a U.S. release date, The Queen's Corgi is already highly anticipated stateside. The animated film follows the monarch's favorite pup Rex, who gets lost in London. He ventures to reunite with his beloved Queen, learning some things about himself along the way.
All that said, the plot is somewhat beside the point-if the whole movie was just short animated clips of corgis running amok in Buckingham Palace and being pet by the Queen, that would be fine. Don't believe me? Watch the trailer. If you don't love Rex by the end of those 64 seconds, I don't know what to tell you.
It's exactly what the world needs to recover from April's news that the monarch's line of corgis has come to an end. Queen Elizabeth received her first corgi, Susan, for her 18th birthday, and bred them until 2015, when she began to fear that she might trip or fall with younger puppies around. When Susan's 14th-generation descendant Willow was put to sleep last spring, her line was over.
Thankfully, the Queen continues to enjoy the company of man's best friend. She has two dachshund-corgi mixes, and recently adopted a corgi after its owner, a former gameskeeper at one of the Queen's homes, passed away.
With the advent of The Queen's Corgi, the monarch's beloved pets should continue to live on in the public imagination as well.
