For King Charles's first State Opening of Parliament as monarch, though he stepped in for Queen Elizabeth in years past, Queen Camilla wore a very special piece of royal jewelry for the first time: the Diamond Diadem (also called the George IV State Diadem, or the State Diadem).

With the diadem, Camilla re-wore her coronation gown, designed by Bruce Odfield—a dress that featured embroidery of her grandchildren's names and her rescue dogs. During the State Opening of Parliament, King Charles read the King's Speech, the agenda set by the current government. It's the first King's Speech since 1951—under Queen Elizabeth's reign, it was called the Queen's Speech. King Charles and Queen Camilla were joined by Princess Anne, who reprised her coronation role of Gold Stick in Waiting.

The late Queen Elizabeth wore the Diamond Diadem to every State Opening, in addition to wearing it en route to her coronation in 1953.

The diadem, according to the Royal Collection Trust, is set with 1,333 diamonds and features a four carat yellow diamond. Its design of roses, shamrocks and thistles represent the national emblems of England, Ireland, and Scotland.

This is not Queen Camilla's first time wearing a significant piece of jewelry associated with Queen Elizabeth. Last month, Camilla wore one of the late queen's favorite tiaras, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, and last year, for her first tiara moment as Queen, she wore Elizabeth's diamond and sapphire tiara. As Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla typically wore the Greville Tiara (also called the Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara), but now, as Queen, she has full access to the royal vaults.
