Queen Camilla thought her shoes were so nice, she decided to wear them twice.

For the second time this week, the queen chose the same brown kitten heel shoe. The almond toe-box is flat and the wooden heel is a thicker, block heel that measures approximately 2-inches. The shoe’s sole is thick and appears to be neutral. The shoes are seen with dark spots along the sides in some photos due to the rain.

The queen was out on May 16 walking to Lamb House near a church in Rye, England. Once home to novelists Henry James, Rumer Godden and E. F. Benson, she later joined a rainy day Garden Party with organizations in celebration of Rye’s renowned literary history. In the photos, she’s seen greeting young children and their parents while trying to stay dry. Later on in the day, her Majesty met representatives from local organizations who have supported their community. This includes the Royal Voluntary Service of which Her Majesty is Patron, Mothers’ Union, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Royal British Legion. Her Majesty also met the bell ringers who welcomed her to the Church of Saint Mary.

Her majesty often chooses a low heel look to complete her looks. At the Badminton Horse Trials 2024 on May 12, 2024 in Badminton, Gloucestershire, she wore the same kitten heel shoe mentioned above. She chose a cream colored pump while meeting pupils in the courtyard of Moreland Primary School in London earlier this month and a black pair in March at a reception for the queen’s reading room study.

About the Shoe

The shoe’s sleek, leather body creates a simple yet sophisticated look. It’s easy to dress this shoe up as the queen did with a dress or skirt or even create a more casual look by choosing a pair of jeans. The shoe’s round shape provides the foot plenty of room to breathe over the top.

About the Style

Kitten heels have been around since the 1600s, but found its footing in the shoe world yet again in the 1950s. They became popular amongst adolescents because they provided such a low heel. The name “kitten heel” was named as they were seen as “training shoes” for children (aka kittens) learning to walk in a more elevated shoe. The average height of the shoe is 1.5-2 inches. Many prominent figures such as Camilla have worn the shoes during professional government duties including Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton.
