"The reign of the corgi in the House of Windsor appears to be over," The Crown Chronicles reports, as Queen Elizabeth had to put down her last corgi on Sunday. Willow, 14, was the fourteenth generation descendant of Susan, the first corgi the queen ever got; she (the Queen, not Susan) was 18 years old at the time.

The Queen reportedly made the decision in 2015 to stop breeding her corgis, as she didn't want any of them "left behind" when she passes. Willow's death marks the last of this generation of corgis and the first time she's been corgi-less since World War II (she's had more than 30 of them in total).

According to Royal Central, the Queen is reportedly devastated by the loss. Per a Buckingham Palace source, she is "more upset about Willow’s death" than that of any other royal corgi: "It is probably because Willow was the last link to her parents and a pastime that goes back to her own childhood ... It really does feel like the end of an era.”

It was Elizabeth's decision to put Willow down, as she'd been suffering from a cancer-related illness. Other sources say she was just relieved Philip was home from the hospital to help her mourn the loss.

Still, the Queen has two remaining "dorgis" - dachshund-corgis mixes - named Vulcan and Candy. Still, this is so very sad. Long live Vulcan and Candy!!!!! And the Queen. Duh.
