Quarantine Chef Selena Gomez Will Star in a New Cooking Show

At long last, Selena Gomez is on the path to Goop-level lifestyle domination. HBO Max, the cable network’s forthcoming streaming service, announced on Tuesday that Gomez will star in a 10-part cooking series. Inspired by the extra time Gomez has been spending in the kitchen under quarantine—her Instagram followers will recall a sumptuous soul food feast—Gomez will get pointers on her culinary skills from a different master chef in each episode.

“I’ve always been very vocal about my love of food. I think I’ve been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do, and I’ve answered that it would be fun to be a chef,” Gomez said of the announcement. “I definitely don’t have the formal training though! Like many of us, while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.” HBO Max lovingly burned the singer, actress, and Rare Beauty founder in its official announcement: “Despite her many talents, it remains to be seen if cooking is one of them.”

As an activist and UNICEF ambassador, Gomez will also infuse her show with a philanthropic element, with each episode highlighting a food-related charity. On Instagram on Tuesday, Gomez said she was “so excited” about her new HBO Max show, and shared her go-to cooking playlist on Spotify, an eclectic mix of Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Lauryn Hill.

Gomez will be part of HBO Max’s first wave of original shows, which are also set to include the Gossip Girl reboot; Love Life, a rom-com series starring Anna Kendrick; and Expecting Amy, a three-part documentary following Amy Schumer as she prepared to shoot her latest comedy special while going through a difficult pregnancy. HBO Max launches on May 27.
