Quality Care Partners sponsoring an 'Amazing Race'-type of event in downtown Zanesville

ZANESVILLE − The public is encouraged to come downtown from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and cheer on 32 teams registered for the Corporate Challenge, an "Amazing Race"-type event meant to raise awareness about and encourage health and wellness. The event starts and ends at Quality Care Partners, 434 Main St., which is hosting the event.“We’re hoping for a party atmosphere,” said Jennifer Martin, director of Marketing and Sales for QCP. “We have a DJ and some other surprises at our location, vendors will be here, too. We want to get everyone excited to win the Corporate Challenge. Families and spectators are more than welcome to come cheer on the teams.”Quality Care Partners works with employers to help drive down healthcare spend.“We have, for many years, celebrated employee wellness and fitness day with a walk around town,” said Martin. “But this year, the employer advisory council came up with this idea and we took it and ran with it.”The focus of the employer council is to discuss current issues, new laws, and health and medical concerns.“Physicians also sit on the council,” said Martin. “It’s a way to bring the medical community and employers together to discuss issues with healthcare.”

Who's competing?

The event will see the 32 registered teams of pairs navigate 12 different stations throughout downtown. Once they get to the station there will be either a physical or mental challenge that the two teammates must work together to complete before moving onto the next.“The locations are secret at this point,” said Martin. “The night of the event, the teams will check in at our location and get a map. At that point, they must come up with their strategy to hit all 12 stations and win.”The prize is a glass bowl filled with fruit. The bowl is etched with the QCP logo and denotes it as the champion. The traveling trophy will rest in the hands of the winner until the next year’s event. The money raised from entry and sponsorship fees will go right back into health and wellness initiatives for Muskingum County and surrounding communities. “We’ll do monthly billboards with Barnes Advertising that have a wellness message, as well as other initiatives,” Martin added.“It was a deliberate decision on how and what our focus was going to be for the proceeds,” said Martin. “Making our community healthier and better educated about health was our focus. So, the decision to put the money towards public announcements and public billboards was a deliberate decision.”And just who will the crowd be cheering on?Companies with teams registered include Backroads Wellness, Moyer Group, Lepi Real Estate, Sheriff Lutz/Drake Prouty for Commissioner, Muskingum County Commissioners, The Community Bank, Graham Law, Genesis Healthcare, Shriver's Hospice, Judge Eric Martin, Quality Care Partners, Muskingum Iron & Metal, ValueCare, ForeverDads, Barnes Advertising, Kessler Sign Company, Avon, Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department, Rea & Associates, The Fieldhouse, North Valley Bank, Nestle Purina, McInturf Insurance Group, Muskingum County Emerging Leaders, Thornville Family Medical Center, MVHC, and Zanesville Area Professionals.Teams can still register if employers want to get involved.“It’s not too late,” said Martin. “If they want to call and register, we can squeeze in another team or two. We’re really excited to see who walks away with the trophy — and the fruit.”
