Pyer Moss Is Set To Debut Its First Haute Couture Collection In Paris This Summer

Pyer Moss continues to push the bounds of the industry – and as Black Fashion Fair founder Bibby Gregory put it on Twitter, the man behind the brand, "Kerby [Jean-Raymond] isn't leaving any doors closed for the next generation of Black designers behind him".

It was announced on Wednesday that the designer is set to present the first Pyer Moss Haute Couture collection in Paris this July, as a part of the Fall/Winter 2021/2022 schedule as the first Black American designer invited by the Chambre Syndicale (the regulating commission, founded in 1868, which determines which brands are "true haute couture). Additionally, it was revealed that the brand would be returning to the NYFW calendar this September after a two-year hiatus to show its Spring 2022 collection.

Pyer Moss was founded by Jean-Raymond in 2013 as what he described as both an "art project" or "timely social experiment". Evolving into a household name over the years, the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Award-winning brand continues to redefine what it means to be a luxury label. This included seasonal drops and showing up for the community in a way that go beyond clothes.

Last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the fashion industry, the designer started two initiatives – one that raised $100,000 to help small business owners experiencing a sharp decline in business, while the other accrued upwards of $10,000 that all healthcare professionals had the proper protective equipment (PPE) to treat patients. This eventually led to the creation of Your Friends in New York–a platform, supported by the Kering Group, that is meant to empower and bring together the next generations of innovators in a range of categories that include fashion, art, philanthropy, and wellness.

From its authentic approach to fashion through the use of nostalgic themes and social commentary, to its ability to create much-needed dialogues around race relations, Pyer Moss has remained unapologetically Black—and now it has earned a spot at fashion's most coveted table.
