Putnam Park Day to offer trolley rides, educating community about the state park

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Dozens of community members came together to celebrate one of Eau Claire’s parks with the help of a trolley.

The three sold out tours on Sunday took everyone on a ride through history for Putnam Park Day.

The trolley picked up passengers at the UW-Eau Claire Phillips parking lot and drove along the trail that runs through campus and a city neighborhood.

Friends of Putnam Park, a community group that helps with sustaining the park, set the tour up, making it the first time this event was held.

Tim Hirsch, who is a founding member, was the tour guide. He spoke about the spots along the trail, which included the fish hatchery and tunnel under State Street.

Hirsch even spent time talking about Henry Putnam, who founded and help develop the park.

He said the park has meant something to most, if not everyone, who hopped on the trolley.

“Everyone, so far, has been able to contribute a story themselves about their experience. Almost no one who’s gone on the bus has visited the park for the first time. We all have experiences here and they’ve all been positive,” said Hirsch.

It’s not clear if there will be another trolley event for Putnam Park Day. But, Hirsch says to feel free and enjoy the park anyway.
