Push Presents Are Not Passé So Get Your Partner Something Nice

Here's my hot take: new parents should get push presents because being pregnant is really hard. Having a baby is, in fact, rewarding, but it's also an entire new set of responsibilities after 9 months of getting sick, being uncomfortable, feeling out of touch with your body, and an inability to drink (or have a happy lil' edible) for the duration. If your partner is willing to do this to carry your child, the least you can do is to get them something nice to celebrate them. Everything for the next — 18 years or so — is going to be about the child they carried, so a little gift, a little push present, if you were, is not only warranted, I think it's mandatory for people who can afford it.

Push presents should be something out of the ordinary. An unexpected, unique gift that shows how much you appreciate what they went through. Another hot take: "Mama"/"Papa" necklaces and the like are great, but save that for Mother's Day/Father's Day. That is, unless, your partner has struggled to get pregnant or maintain a pregnancy. Then? Everything should shout to the rooftops that they're now a mama. As someone who required medical magic and a lot of luck to get pregnant, the amount of "Mama" stuff I had in the beginning as a mom was wild and I loved it.

My husband did get me push presents when we had our kids, and I still cherish them. He knew exactly what I'd love, and went for it. Baby number one I got an emerald "Mama" necklace. Baby number two I got a gigantic food processor that literally made me drool and I use it to this day all of the time.
