My vet recommended I give my dog this Amazon best-selling probiotic for his sensitive stomach: ‘This is a must buy if your dog is having potty issues’

My pup is a picky eater. While it can be frustrating, I get it. He has a sensitive stomach, and even a change in treats can give him diarrhea or make him vomit. If that were me, I might also be cautious about what I eat. However, in a quest to help him find the right food — taste and health-wise — he’s seemingly experienced some discomfort.

Talking to my vet, she suggested giving him a probiotic when he experiences diarrhea while transitioning his food or when I have to give him any medications. The veterinarian’s office offers a pricey prescription, but she recommended the more affordable Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements FortiFlora Probiotics for Dogs. You can get it on Amazon in powder form to sprinkle over your dog’s food for $30.90; it should last 30 days. You can also get a 45-count of chewable tablets for $44.99.

I purchased the powder and the chewable tablets for my dog. The powder has a dried liver flavor that he seems to think is a fancy dog food topper, not a health supplement. The chewable tablets are chicken-flavored, and he will usually eat them because he thinks they’re a treat, but sometimes he decides they’re too big and prefers them cut in half (yes, really).

Nonetheless, both forms work. After trying the probiotic for the first time, my dog’s digestive issues cleared up within a day, and he was back to his high-energy self.

According to the product description, the Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements contain antioxidants and a probiotic that promotes normal intestinal microflora for a healthier gut and a strong immune system. It’s safe to give to puppies and adult dogs, too.

My vet is not the only one recommending this probiotic because it’s in Amazon’s top-selling pet products. Additionally, the supplement has over 30,000 five-star reviews.

“This probiotic was recommended to me by my vet when my dog got really sick. I now continue to give this supplement to my dogs everyday and they LOVE it!” wrote one Amazon reviewer. “I can tell that the product has a meaty flavor because it is a brown color and smells like beef broth. My dogs will not eat their food if this is not added to their meal!”

“I have two young dogs that for some reason both had loose stools nonstop. I was hesitant to buy this because they are picky eaters, however, this made them want to eat their dry food more,” wrote another shopper. “They must like the taste. Also, the difference in their stools is night and day. This is a must buy if your dog is having potty issues!!

It might not be a cheap option, but if you break down the cost, it comes to about $1 per day. Plus, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can order and get this stuff fast. Speed is important for any bathroom emergency, but especially for your loving pup.
