“For Puma, the agreement represents a great opportunity to further invest in sports in Egypt and to strengthen our presence in the country,” said Puma’s managing director EEMEA distribution Johan Kuhlo in a statement. “Egypt has a deeply rooted passion for sports and great economic potential. As a sports company, we are excited to invest in both.”

Puma previously partnered with the Egyptian Football Association, the Egyptian Handball Federation as well as other teams and athletes in the country. Puma-sponsored Egypt recently won the the African Men’s Handball Championship for the ninth time.

“In Puma we have found a perfect partner who is as passionate about sports in Egypt as we are,” said Prof. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian minister of Youth and Sports. “Puma is already well known to Egyptians as a reliable partner for our national football and handball teams and I am proud the company will now also outfit our Olympic delegation for the upcoming Games in Paris.”

The news comes shortly after Puma announced it would terminate its sponsorship of the Israeli Football Association (IFA) in 2024 as part of a decision made in 2022, prior to the start of Israel’s war with Hamas in October, the company said.

In a statement to FN at the time, Puma said it “decided to implement its new fewer-bigger-better strategy” when it comes to sports marketing and said it would announce two newly signed national soccer teams later in December and in 2024.
