Puma Collaborates With X-Girl on Y2K Skateboarding-Inspired Collection

Puma has partnered with X-Girl to create a collection inspired by the skateboarding culture of the 1990s and 2000s.

Since 1994, X-Girl has used graphic designs to create collections that bring art and music to the fashion industry. They focus on creating basic pieces that take inspiration from street culture factors like rock, the military, the outdoors and now, skateboarding.

For Puma’s first ever collaboration with the womenswear brand, they created a capsule collection that is influenced by skateboarding during the Y2K period. The line is composed of a variety of apparel and accessories like a bucket hat, woven jacket and cropped hoodies.

Because of DIY’s popularity during that time, details like contrast-stitching and graffiti-inspired lettering are seen throughout the line. The accents and graphics are a homage to X-Girl’s feminine edge.

While still incorporating the theme, the brands completed the collection with reworked Puma footwear models. A reimagined Puma 180 takes on an all-black silhouette while the Puma Suede takes on an all-white sneaker. Each set allows the customer to differentiate their pair with a special accessory kit that includes patches, charms, studs, pearls and vibrant laces. The low-top sneakers are all completed by a lace charm that resembles Puma’s leaping cat logo.

The Puma x X-Girl collection is scheduled to release March 7 through Puma’s website and select stores worldwide.

In other Puma news, the brand recently announced a collection with the anime series “One Piece” that will be released later this month. The two brands created four sneakers inspired by the four emperors on the show.
