Publix has issued a recall for certain varieties of its private-label pies from the store bakery due to a filling mix-up. The store recalled a limited number of Egg Custard Pies because they may accidentally contain Coconut Cream Pie in the filling—and, therefore, do not have the proper allergy warning on the label. Here's what you need to know about the recall.

Publix Egg Custard Pies Recalled For Undeclared Allergen

The pies were sold in Publix’s bakery section in multiple Florida locations between Oct. 20 and Nov. 16. Publix stores in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are impacted by this recall—so, if you’ve purchased an Egg Custard Pie at your bakery in the past few weeks, you’ll want to check the label.

Egg Custard Pies with the GTIN number 4141537891 are the pies impacted by the recall, and may contain filling from the Publix Coconut Cream Pies. This is the only pie variety being recalled. The pies have since been removed from shelves, according to Publix, but be sure to check your fridge or freezer.

Because of the undeclared allergen, consuming these recalled Egg Custard Pies could cause severe or life-threatening allergic reactions for anyone with a coconut allergy or sensitivity. If you have one of the recalled pies, you can bring it back to your local Publix for a full refund.

You can return your pie regardless of if you have a coconut allergy or not—though, if you do have an allergy or sensitivity, you are absolutely urged not to consume them. However, if you don’t have a coconut allergy, there is nothing inherently dangerous about these Publix pies. The pies were only recalled for their undeclared allergen, so if you are not allergic to coconut, you are free to safely consume the pie.

Publix says no adverse reactions or illnesses have been reported after consuming its Egg Custard Pie as of now. But, if you have any questions or concerns about the recall, you can contact Publix at 1-800-242-1227.
