Ptown is ‘Reimagining Queer Africa’ for Pride 2024

The Provincetown Business Guild (PBG) presents the 7th annual Provincetown Pride Festival beginning May 31 through June 2, 2024.
This year’s celebration will feature the Queer Comedy Showcase, Pride Cruise with Bay State Cruise Company, Feet Over Front Street 5K Pride Run & Walk, Official Pride parties, and more.
Provincetown Pride is especially excited to announce this year’s Reimagining Queer Africa, a partnership between the PBG and Obodo, a youth-led nonprofit organization based in Lagos, Nigeria, advocating for the rights of queer Nigerians through art, technology, outreach, and financial support. Obodo’s programs include film screenings, book clubs, professional workshops, and the Queer Artist Fund which provides a platform for queer artists to explore and express their narratives.
Matthew Blaise, Obodo’s founder and director, will be in town for Pride, as will Rachel Victory, a visual artist working in photography and film and who is part of the Obodo Queer Artist Fund 2024.
“Global queer solidarity is imperative during these times as the hate against LGBTQ+ people rises worldwide, especially in the global south,” Blaise says.

Reimagining Queer Africa at the Provincetown Pride Center will showcase the work of five African artists from the Obodo Queer Artist Fund 2024. The exhibition will celebrate the use of creative expression to explore and amplify queer experiences in Nigeria. An opening reception occurs Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. and the exhibit runs through June. The art on exhibit will be available for sale.
“One of our goals with Provincetown Pride is to connect the truly beautiful and unique experience of celebrating Pride in a space where as a queer person, you are in the majority, to the harder reality that many members of our LGBTQ+ family face daily,” says Trevor Pittinger, executive director of the Provincetown Business Guild, adding how Obodo’s use of art and queer storytelling to remind us of our “responsibility to stay engaged in creating space and amplifying support for those fighting for safety and for their voices to be heard, locally, nationally, and internationally.”

Of course, no Pride in Ptown would be complete without multiple parties offering something for everyone, including the Full Spectrum Pride Kickoff Party at Red Room, the Official Pride Dance Party at A-House, the Pride Underwear Party at Gifford House, and the Babes & Bois Passionfruits Playhouse Par’Tea’ at the Porch Bar for the queer and sapphic at heart. There will also be plenty of fun and representation at the Queer Comedy Showcase at Town Hall.

The PBG is once again partnering with the Provincetown Runners for a 5K Run/Walk. Feet Over Front Street honors Commercial Street’s original name, Front Street, which dates to 1880.
