PSA: Stop Playing Monopoly Until You’ve Seen ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4

I know what you’re doing. I see you. You’re planning to destroy Gram Gram at Simpsons Monopoly for the 24th straight Thursday night, yeah? Bet you feel good, wheeling around your pizza-greased Bart Simpson car, planting a hotel on Burns Manor before Gram Gram even passes Go. Just know that Gram Gram is sad. She’ll never forgive you for what you did to her on family game night.

Well, friend, your Monopoly plans are off for tonight. At least, they should be. Reportedly, the newest iteration of Monopoly, which is based around all things Stranger Things, spoils major plot points within season 4. (By the way, season 4 volume 1 will debut next Friday.) If you dig around the Stranger Things Reddit boards, you’ll find various Monopoly cards that allegedly detail story beats from the new episodes. As to avoid pulling a Mr. Moneybags, we won’t put those details here and spoil the season for you too.

We can, however, fill you in on what could be simmering beef between Monopoly and Netflix over the supposed spoilers. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Netflix wasn’t happy about the mishap” and the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, “have long valued maintaining story secrecy and were said to have had a ‘total meltdown’ about the mishap.” The Hollywood Reporter’s anonymous source added, “Lessons have been learned, and I expect there will be more cohesion going into season 5.” Yikes. The drama has surpassed yesterday’s pressing question, where we debated whether an episode of Stranger Things or a single game of Monopoly took longer to complete.

Regardless, we’d like to complete our good deed of the day and advise you to stop playing Monopoly and its infinite iterations (more than 300, to be exact!) until you finish the new episodes of Stranger Things. Seriously. There might be a stray Stranger Things card lodged in the Cat Lovers edition you blew $74.95 on. That includes Simpsons Monopoly too. And next time you play, please, for the love of god, stop shouting “D’oh” at Gram Gram whenever she rolls snake eyes. It’s not as cute as you think.
