PSA: The New ‘Slender Man’ Trailer Is Totally Disturbing

Slender Man: No, not a pant cut at J.Crew, but a chilling new movie based on real-life kids who committed strange acts of violence to appease a creepy meme.

From the frightful looks of its new trailer, the film from director Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) will possibly render us too scared to leave the confines of our home for, like, a month—thanks to heartwarming horror tropes like voodoo dolls, larva and someone stabbing themselves in the eye (aka the usual).

Not just disturbing for disturbing’s sake, the film also offers an interesting take on the effects the internet can have on young minds.

Slender Man stars Javier Botet (It) as the Slender Man and Jaz Sinclair (Paper Towns), Joey King (The Conjuring), Julia Goldani Telles (The Affair) and Annalise Basso (Oculus) as the young girls who get mixed up with him.

It hits theaters May 18, giving us plenty of time to decide to probably chicken out.
