  • Mel has made movies like Blazing Saddles and The Producers, and Max is the writer of horror novels like World War Z.

  • "If I get the coronavirus, I'll probably be OK," Max says in the video. "But if I give it to him, he could give it to Carl Reiner, who can give it to Dick Van Dyke."

Mel Brooks has brought laughter and levity to the world for nearly 60 years. He's found the humor in fascism (The Producers), racism (Blazing Saddles), and Star Wars (Spaceballs), so surely the coronavirus wasn't stand in his way. The comedy legend appeared alongside his also-famous son, Max, in a video discussing the importance of social distancing during the current pandemic.

Mel, 93, appeared behind a glass door in the video posted by, Max, 47. Max is a horror writer, his best-known work being World War Z (which has also been adapted into a Brad Pitt movie of the same name).

Max explains in the video the idea of how a disease like the COVID-19 could spread, and the dangerous outcomes that it could have—in this case, to a number of geriatric comedy legends.

"If I get the coronavirus, I'll probably be OK, but if I give it to him, he could give it to Carl Reiner, who can give it to Dick Van Dyke. And before I know it, I've wiped out a whole generation of comic legends," Max said. "When it comes to coronavirus, I have to think about who I can infect. And so should you."
