PSA: Saweetie Still Has to Remind Her Man—Quavo—to Wash His Face
In case you didn't get the memo, Saweetie's really into getting her nails done. In "Icy Girl," the 2017 hit that ushered her onto the path of super-stardom, she raps in a laidback tone, "Manicures and pedicures, I’m always tip-top.” And in "Tap In," a more recent hit that dropped in 2020, she echoes that same sentiment, rapping "Icy from my lips to my fingers to my toenails," over a sample of Too $hort's classic hit, "Blow the Whistle."
Looking good is just a part of who Saweetie is—take a quick glance through her IG and you'll notice talon-length acrylics of every color and design, diamond-encrusted hoop earrings, and her signature baby hairs, swirled into mini whirlpools. It only makes sense that her latest collab would be with SinfulColors, a nail brand that she’s used since her high school days, back when she was known to the world as Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper.
The brand’s latest drop includes three new releases: The Essenchills Collection (aka neutral nail polish shades, like deep browns and earth greens, with scents, like coffee, paired to each hue), the Opposite Essenchills Collection (bold and vibrant shades, like hot pink and neon yellow), and the Claws collection (several dope press-on nail sets, including matte bases and gemstone accents). The collab gives you plenty of room to play around, and it's only just the beginning—SinfulColors and Saweetie have several nail launches slated for the rest of the year.
You can find Saweetie’s vibrant energy all over this latest drop. Whether she's experimenting with new beauty trends, changing up her hair color, or even drawing clouds on her face using an eyeshadow palette (yes, she can do her own glam), Saweetie can’t be pinned down or placed into a box. So it's fitting these new lines don’t force the customer to choose—you can easily switch up your look depending on your mood.
Ahead, Cosmo caught with Saweetie over Zoom to chat about this new collaboration, her beauty must-haves, and why she still has to explain to her boyfriend, rapper Quavo, how to properly wash his face.
How growing up in the Bay Area influenced her approach to beauty:
"I feel like growing up in the Bay Area just makes you unique—we all want to be our own individuals when it comes to fashion, hair color, nails, makeup, everything. So I’ve always strived to be different. That’s the whole idea behind being a pretty bitch—it’s all about confidence. It’s about how unique you are, how you carry yourself, and how dope you are inside and out."

On staying cute on a budget:
"Omg, when I was in college [at USC] I got my nails done once a month. My nails would be so grown out, girl. But even before college, I remember loving the SinfulColors brand because it’s hella affordable. And the colors actually stay on your nails. It’s one thing for something to be affordable, but if the quality isn't there, then what’s the point? I’m also into the color selection with SinfulColors. I really like how there’s a color for every girl and every mood.
"Now I get my nails done once a week [laughs]. I get all my inspo from social media—I’m literally on there all day. I have an ongoing bottomless mood board. The pictures start to pile up, so whenever I need inspiration I just look at my mood board."
On her beauty must-haves:
"A must-have is definitely the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm. I sometimes still use makeup wipes—don’t kill me—but this balm is definitely a go-to for me. I also love Fenty Beauty’s Sun Stalk'r Instant Warmth Bronzer, but I use it as an eyeshadow. It’s a special type of brown that looks really good in my crease. So on a quick glam-and-go makeup day, I’m always putting some Fenty on my lids.
"I also love body scrubs. I love me a good body scrub, and I love baths. I’ve been taking a lot of them lately—I think they’re good for your overall body health, you know? The Milk and Honey Body Polish is a great one, it makes your skin glow.
"For my edges, I use the Kiss Edge Fixer Glued Gel. Not only does it last, but it also smells so good. I think there’s an overall theme of being an Icy Girl—she always smells good, she always gets her hair and her nails done.
"I think that’s also part of the reason why I like wearing more masculine scents when I’m handling my business. It just adds to the mood, girl, it sets the vibe. You know how a good song will set the vibe? That’s how I feel about smells."
On her number one tip for slaying a wig:
"When it comes to wigs, I always say just use a hot comb. That’s what you really need to lay down your hair, so it’s not standing up and looking wild. I feel like whenever a stylist pulls out a hot comb, you know they mean business. They know how to press some hair."
On the beauty advice she gives to her man:
"I always tell [Quavo] to wash his face and put some moisturizer on. You know, men think that they can just wet a rag and put it on their face. That’s not washing your face—there’s a difference between wetting your face and actually washing your face."
