Remember when we reported that Chick-fil-A was quietly testing mac and cheese at select locations? It seems that it went well: The cheesy side dish has just been added to menus nationwide—permanently.
The new addition is made with a classic macaroni and cheese recipe, featuring a special blend of cheeses including cheddar, Parmesan, and Romano.

"Mac & Cheese is the quintessential comfort food, and something we are so excited to offer our guests at Chick-fil-A. We think it's the perfect pairing with our Original Chicken Sandwich, nuggets and our grilled chicken offerings, but it's also great on its own as a snack," said Amanda Norris, executive director of menu and packaging, in a press release. "Mac & Cheese is also available on our catering menu as a quick pick-up for a larger gathering. It has a delicious, homemade taste!"
While Chick-fil-A certainly doesn’t make a habit of changing up its menu—this is the first permanent addition since 2016—this news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Last fall’s test run was met with rampant enthusiasm:
So I need EVERYONE to @ChickfilA and tell them to NOT TAKE MAC AND CHEESE OFF THE MENU!! Alright? Because @ChickfilA Mac and cheese literally keeps me alive! So, please, everyone @ChickfilA and tell them to not discontinue it. Or at least not discontinue it— Peaches 🍑 (@trollkrista) October 20, 2018
@ChickfilA has mac and cheese now.. the game has changed. Every fast food chain needs to just shut down.— Alejandro Perales (@Hondeezy_FIJI) September 14, 2018
"We have a very high bar when it comes to adding a menu item," said Norris, "but the feedback from our customers in the test markets made this decision easy.”
The new menu item is available as a side option at Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide today.
