The Property Brothers Pulled off a Kitchen Design with Two Islands

Why have one kitchen island when you can have two?

That’s the question Jonathan and Drew Scott are asking following the latest episode of The Property Brothers. And admittedly, so are we.

In the episode titled “Island Getaway,” the Scott brothers are tasked with creating a beautiful and functional forever home for couple Shaly and Leonel and their two young children. But a less-than-ideal kitchen posed some problems.

“The original kitchen was smack-dab in the center of the home,” the bros recalled on their website. “Its awful placement blocked sunlight and sight lines. We moved it to one side of the house, and our original plans included a large island that contained both seating and all the normal island functions, like a sink and cabinets.”

Their plans changed, however, when Shaly and Leonel stopped by in the middle of construction and voiced their concerns with the size of the island. Realizing how big it was going to be, Leonel was worried about being able to reach the middle the countertop to clean it.

So, the couple suggested a unique solution. Instead of one large island, why not have two, smaller islands? "Sister islands!" explained Shaly.

The HGTV hosts admitted to being skeptical about the unconventional design, but they've never been ones to shy away from quirky kitchen designs before!

“We were definitely not into the idea at first—we thought it would look like aisles at the supermarket—but by the time we finished, we were smitten,” the Scott brothers concluded.

We have to admit, it works!
