Ethan Dolan Just Revealed He's in a Committed Relationship and It Isn’t With Emma Chamberlain

For years, fans of YouTubers Emma Chamberlain and Ethan Dolan looked for every sign and hint that the two were dating. The pair used to be BFFs and made a ton of videos together, but it was never confirmed whether or not they were just friends or something more. The two haven't been seen together for awhile, though, and it seems like the chances of Ethma being real are getting slimmer and slimmer. So, as you reminisce on what might have been, check out the timeline below to relive all the amazing Ethma memories.

July 20, 2020:

The Dolan Twins decided to set some records straight and address assumptions about them in a YouTube video. One of the assumptions was that Ethan Dolan was in a committed relationship. Without skipping a beat, Ethan answered, "yes," confirming that he is seriously dating someone.

Even Grayson was shocked by his brother's admission, but the pair quickly moved on as Ethan clearly wants to keep his relationship private right now. Immediately after, though, the brothers commented on an assumption about why the Sister Squad ended. As a reminder, back in 2018, the twins were a part of the YouTube crew along with James Charles and Emma Chamberlain. The twins wouldn't comment on why the group no longer makes videos together, saying they didn't want to speak on it without the permission of the other two members. They did, however, mention that they weren't in touch with the other Squad members. "We actually haven't talked to them in a while," Grayson said.

So, fans put two and two together and realized that while Ethan is in a committed relationship, it can't be with Emma if he hasn't talked to her recently. Unfortunately, it seems like our Ethma dreams are officially over.

January 7, 2020:

While we haven't heard anything from Ethma in a while, in Cosmo's February cover story, Emma opens up about her life as a YouTube star. And while she won't confirm that she's dating anyone, she doesn't seem to deny it either. Check out this quote by Dana Schwartz from the story

Did you see that? "Can’t-confirm-on-the-record-but-true." I'm sorry, all I saw was "true." Of course, we Ethma shippers know the curly hair boy mentioned must be no other than Ethan Dolan, and this cryptic message is all I need to verify that Ethma is real.

July 12, 2019:

Honestly, there's nothing more exciting than a flirty Twitter exchange. When Ethan announced that the twins' new fragrances were live, Emma responded asking where she could get hers. Ethan's response was very flirty. "I’ll tell u where* it is. My house. Now," he wrote, correcting Emma's grammar. UMMMM you want Emma to come to your house? I see you, Ethan.

On the same day, Emma and Ethan were spotted leaving a SoulCycle in West Hollywood together. When a reporter asked if they are officially dating, they didn't deny it. "Did we say it?" Emma asks. "Not yet." But soon, perhaps?

June 10, 2019:

Any hope of Emma one day coming clean about her rumored relationship with Ethan were slashed when she told W Magazine that she couldn't ever see herself having a public relationship.

"I’m speaking from what would feel right," she explained. "Breakups alone are absolutely the most f*cking awful thing that exist. Why would you want other people to be heartbroken with you? I can’t imagine that. And also, I don’t like seeing other people’s relationships. It’s boring and it’s gross.”

May 22, 2019:

Ethan kept it simple when wishing Emma a happy birthday this year, simply tweeting, "happy birthday emmo." He then followed that up with "h.a.g.b." which I'm going to assume stands for "have a good birthday."

April 2010:

Of course, Emma and Ethan couldn't miss Coachella. The pair headed to the festival together, and while they didn't post any pics together, sneaky fans took a ton of photos and posted them on Twitter.

February 11, 2019:

Emma's BFF Olivia Rouyre was just having a little fun when she "broke into" Emma's house for a YouTube video, but Ethma shippers took the vid as an opportunity to do some sleuthing. One fan noticed that Emma has a picture of her and Ethan hugging and kissing in her apartment!

February 5, 2019:

Tana Mongeau fueled Ethma shippers when she put on a lie detector and answered questions that Shane Dawson prepared for her for a video. One of those questions? "Do you have any tea on Ethma?" to which Tana responded, "yes" and the lie detector confirmed she was telling the truth! Tell us what you know, sis!!!

January 19, 2019:

When the Dolan twins' dad unfortunately passed away from cancer earlier this year, Emma headed to their hometown of New Jersey to support them and pay her respects, sharing pics of her trip on Instagram.

January 29, 2019:

A fan named Will Weinbach started flirting with Emma on Twitter and before long, he realized he'd been blocked by Ethan Dolan. Will told the story of the whole ordeal on YouTube, with screenshots and everything, but he later deleted the video.

January 8, 2019:

Ethma shippers freaked out when Emma got called out by a hater for having crusty lips and Ethan came to her rescue. "Her lips deffffinitely aren’t crusty," he said retweeted the shady tweet.

Uhhhhhhh how do you know that, Ethan???? Ethan tried to deny that he has kissed Emma (which is what everyone obviously started assuming), saying that everyone know she's always putting on chapstick, but it was too late, everyone was already reading so hard into the tweet.

January 7, 2019:

Seemingly out of nowhere, Tana Mongeau tweeted, "ETHMA!" Again, tell us what you know, sis!

December 25, 2018:

The Sister Squad—which consists of the Dolan twins, Emma, and James Charles—got together once again, this time to give each other their dream gifts, and while everyone really pulled out all the stops, we couldn't help but notice how sweet Ethan and Emma's gifts were for each other.

Knowing Emma's obsession with coffee, Ethan got her a super fancy espresso machine (like it's worth over $2K), which apparently she always talked about wanting. Meanwhile, Emma got Ethan a designer sweatshirt and since it didn't come in time, she made a replacement gift with a red sweatshirt and black tape!! Aw!

October 30, 2018:

Grayson seemingly revealed Ethan and Emma's relationship in a video when the Sister Squad headed to a haunted house. While the brothers are arguing at the beginning, Grayson says, "We, we both f*cked up, me and your BLEEP." The word is bleeped out, but many assumed Grayson said "girlfriend," especially considering Ethma's reaction:

October 9, 2018:

Ethan and Grayson opted to take a lie detector test for a video, which is a bad idea if you're trying to hide a relationship. Ethan probably began regretting this decision when he was asked if he was dating anyone. He said no, but the lie detector showed he was lying. So, Ethan had no choice but to admit it saying, "I guess."

Grayson couldn't believe what his brother admitted to. "Did you just say that sh*t on camera?" he asked, to which Ethan says he didn't say anything. Hmmmm what could they be talking about, I wonder? Did Ethan just low key admit he's dating someone?

September 2018:

In September 2018 Emma invited interviewer Tom Ward over to her LA apartment to chat and film a video for his channel Under the Influence. Fans were quick to notice that in the back of the video, on Emma's wall, there were polaroids of Ethan and Emma hugging. The video was actually deleted and re-uploaded at one point, this time with the photos in the back blurred out. Pretty suspicious...

August 28, 2018:

The sister squad decided to get hypnotized and they were pretty freaked out about it. Who did Emma lean on when they were hypnotized? Ethan of course! Look how cute:

July 4, 2018:

Emma and Ethan celebrated the fourth together on jet skis and Ethan even posted a pic commemorating the event on his Instagram.

June 2018:

Only a month after Emma publicly professed her love for the twins (see below), we started getting videos of them together as part of the iconic Sister Squad. It was actually James who initially introduced Emma to the twins shortly after she moved to LA.

May 27, 2018:

In what now seems like an ancient video, Tana and Emma hang and discuss the very important topic of their favorite Dolan twin.

"I was a huge Dolan stan," Emma begins. "It's not that I grew out of it, I just realized that they're too hot for me and then, at that point they became unattainable." What's crazy is, at this point, Emma hadn't even met the Dolan twins! (Fast forward to now when they are literally like best friends).

Anyway, Emma finally answers the question of which twin is her favorite and the results are...very telling. "Honestly, so like for the whole time it was Grayson, right. And then once I stopped looking at pictures of them and watched the videos I was like, 'Maybe I'm Ethan."

Of course, Grayson saw the video and he was less than pleased.
