Professional Skier Tries (And Fails) To Explain How Skis Are Made In Hilarious Video

Skis. We love them. Can't shut up about them. But try as most of us might, the specifics of constructing our favorite planks are somewhat mysterious, outside the expertise of the average skier.

It turns out the ski construction blackbox is also beyond some professional skiers, as evidenced by the hilarious video starring Blizzard Tecnica athlete Marcus Caston, who hopelessly tries to explain the details of Blizzard's new Rustler ski.

All right, you got me. This is 100% satire. Caston's been with Blizzard for years, meaning there's no way he can't give a better description of the brand's skis.

Still, I love the concept here. The image of a hotshot pro skier with rocks for brains (not talking about Caston! It's hypothetical) walking into the factory where their sponsor's skis are made before saying something outrageously off-base tickles me. And is this ski an automatic or a manual?

I also find something relatable about this video featuring Caston. I've been on skis since I was three. I competed in freeride (not particularly well, but still) through middle school and high school. I've watched countless ski movies and spent countless more hours discussing skiing in general.

Yet, certain aspects of skiing, like the nuts and bolts of ski construction, remain somewhat mystifying. Heck, I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit this, but I didn't know the difference between side cuts and sidewalls until a few years ago.

So, even if Caston is playing an obtuse character, I get it. That whole ski construction business is complicated and probably best left to the engineers.
