Major Game of Thrones spoilers! You know the drill: Don’t keep reading unless you’re all caught up with the show.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones has not been kind to Cersei Lannister. The once Queen, then reluctant Queen Mother, has been struggling to gain power and respect since the beginning of her time in King’s Landing. It seemed like all her conniving had gotten her into REAL trouble this season, though. Cersei loses her son to the High Sparrow, who (with Margaery’s help) manipulates him into forming a partnership with the Sparrows. Basically, it seems like this is it for Cersei. She has to go to trial for her sins. She’s done for, she’s spending the rest of her days in Sparrow jail.

But that’s not what happened.

As you know now after watching the season finale, “The Winds of Winter,” Cersei burned that shit to the GROUND — just like she said she would time and time again. She made sure her all her enemies were gathered in the Sept of Baelor, and she ignited the Wildfire — which was tucked away underneath.

And what was Cersei wearing when all of this happened? You noticed the black leather. The high collar. The chains. The heavy, silver embroidery on the shoulders.

But did you wonder why she wore a hefty, masculine gown? There’s a reason Cersei chose THIS outfit, and not her usual wrap dress. And the reason goes ALL the way back to Season 1, and this encounter she had with King Robert.

Cersei has always wanted to be treated with the respect that the men in her life did. She was never taken seriously by neither her father, Tywin Lannister, her late husband, nor the Small Council. And now, with Tommen dead (bye, Tommen!) and basically nothing standing in her way (that is, until Dany’s dragons and her gigantic army arrive in Westeros, but we’ll save that for Season 7), she can finally get that power and respect. (Okay, maybe not respect, but certainly fear.)

You know who else wore black leather?

Tywin Lannister. SOMEONE has gone matchy-matchy with her dad.

And in the final scene of the finale? She’s wearing a new crown (specifically designed for her — gone are the Baratheon antlers, which are replaced by a sun-like design), and even more armor on her shoulders.

Looks like Cersei is finally wearing the armor — but will it stay that way? We’ve got ten months until we find out. WELP.
