Pro Skier Complains About El Niño's Rainy Start To Winter

The start of the ski season has been a mixed bag this fall.

Yes, plenty of resorts are open or will open soon, but the weather, aside from some exceptions, has oscillated between rainy and dry across vast swathes of North America.

And professional skier Nick Goepper is sick of it.

My thoughts exactly. While the forecast has delivered snow to some states, here in western Montana, it's been bone dry aside from the occasional rain storm. I'm over it.

We western Montana residents aren't alone. In California, Palisades Tahoe is touting a "small but mighty" opening tomorrow with limited terrain offerings due to the lack of snow. And Alta Ski Area, Utah, was forced to delay its planned November 17th opening date.

Clearly, the ongoing El Niño has been a bit fickle thus far -- shout out to all the hardworking snowmakers resort-wide who are making the best of a challenging situation.

But I'm not here to just deliver bad news.

Goepper, who announced his retirement from competitive skiing last winter, is back in action. First, he executed a notable pivot in his online persona before sharing that he will return to competition as a halfpipe skier. Previously, Goepper focused on slopestyle, making the news a bit of a shock.

It's the kind of comeback story skiing was made for. Stay tuned for more updates from Goepper's career pivot. And, while you're at it, think snow. The El Niño needs to get its act together.
