Norwegian alpine ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde suffered a heavy accident yesterday at the Lauberhorn races in Wengen, leading to his airlift removal following the incident.

The star posted an update yesterday to X (formerly Twitter) from his hospital bed, bloody face and all, writing "I’m here (and being taken care of by the one and only @MikaelaShiffrin…patched up…thank you so much for all of the messages. I’m grateful for all the words of love and support."

Aleksander Kilde is a World Cup alpine ski racer who became junior world champion in giant slalom in 2013 at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada and won the European Cup overall title that season.

Kilde also finished second in the Super-G at the Norwegian national championships, setting a time 0.11 of a second behind winner Aksel Lund Svindal.

He made his World Cup debut in October 2012 and has competed on the circuit since the 2014 season.

Kilde represented Norway in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In his most recent race this weekend, however, according to officials at the Olympics, the Norwegian speed star "fell right at the end of his run on the Lauberhorn but retained consciousness after careening into the safety netting."

Kilde was attempting to ski the bottom half of the full iconic 4.2km Lauberhorn test, the longest race on the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup calendar.

Unfortunately, Kilde crashed on his final turn, after a couple of tough ones right before where he was slightly off course. He then careened into the finish straight and was airborne, falling into the adjacent safety netting.

He was treated for his right leg on scene, but was then airlifted by a helicopter to Interlaken hospital.

His partner, none other than Mikaela Shiffrin, showed up to the hospital to offer her support.

Kilde remains positive, writing "This sport can be brutal, but I still love it. Will share more later."

Our thoughts are with Aleksander at this time. We wish him a recovery as speedy as his race times!
