Priyanka Chopra Recalls Taking a Fake Knife Into an Airport

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is back in action on TV. Eight years after making her television debut in Quantico, the Love Again actress is returning to the small screen playing agent Nadia Sinh in the Russo Brothers' new spy series Citadel.

As for what her mom, Madhu Chopra, and husband, Nick Jonas, think when they see her in action? "I think my mom and my husband by now are like so used to seeing me do stunts in my job," Priyanka told Parade ahead of the Citadel premiere. Though she noted that her mom "still gets surprised."

"She's still like, 'Did you get hurt when you fell?' And I'm like, 'You know this is make believe, right?' You've been my mother for the 22-year career that I've had.' But she still gets like really shook," Priyanka said of her mother. "She'll wince when I get impacted and it's really cute."

The Citadel star physically trained for almost a year and a half for her role in the action-packed series from Amazon Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO. "We had a whole stunt studio where we could go and train any time that we needed to make sure that our characters were prepared to do the stunts," Priyanka said.

"I've had conversations with the Russos and they were very keen that you see me doing the stunts. We're not superheroes. I don't have magical powers. Nadia is actually a human being who's just very technically trained," she added. "So they really wanted to see the impact and [for] the stunts to feel really visceral. So we trained really hard to do that for about a year and a half."

While the Quantico alum didn't rehearse her stunts at home, she did carry stunt knives wherever she went to practice flipping them...one of which accidentally found its way into her bag at an airport.

"I was going to the airport to fly for something and the fake plastic carabiner knife was in my bag at the airport security," she recalled. "Listen, that was a funny conversation, I'll tell you. I had to be like, 'This is a fake weapon. It was not supposed to be in my bag.'"

Citadel marks Priyanka's first TV role since Quantico, which came to an end in 2018. The Sky Is Pink actress stars alongside Richard Madden in the spy drama playing agents whose memories were wiped following the fall of the independent global spy agency Citadel. Years later, the two reconnect and embark on a mission to prevent a new world order from being established,

"I think that Citadel being a series is really cool because the show is basically a large movie," Priyanka said. "It's like a long, six-episode movie."

Tune into the series, which premieres April 28 on Prime Video. New episodes will be released weekly every Friday.
