Priyanka Chopra Recalls Scary Hospital Experience with Baby Daughter Malti

A little over a year after welcoming her daughter, Priyanka Chopra is opening up about their sweet relationship.

Speaking to Elle for the magazine's May digital cover story, the Citadel star said of baby Maltie Marie: "She’s got me wrapped around her finger. I don’t even know how I’ll ever discipline her because I just don’t have it in me."

Chopra and husband Nick Jonas welcomed their first child, via surrogate, in January 2022. The couple posted the first photo of them with their baby on Mother's Day that May, on Instagram. In their post, they revealed Malti had finally come home with them after having to spend more than 100 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to medical difficulties.

Recalling that experience, Chopra told Elle of her daughter, "I was so close to losing her so many times that she can get away with anything and I just want to see her happy. I want her to be the happiest. She’s a super smiley, happy baby, and that’s all my goal is—to see her joyous. Every time she smiles, it lights up my world, and that’s all I want to do."

This May will mark her second Mother’s Day since welcoming her little girl, and she couldn't be more proud to have such a close-knit family made up of strong women.

"I’ve had incredible influences of moms in my life, and now with my mother-in-law [Denise Miller-Jonas] who’s this epic, amazing woman," Chopra said, adding that her mother, grandmother, and aunties have all had huge, positive influences on her life. "I’ve not been a mom long enough to be able to take the celebration, but I love to celebrate the moms in my life on Mother’s Day."
