Priyanka Chopra’s Makeup Artist Matched Her Eyes to Her Earrings for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Priyanka Chopra is living her best life right now. Last summer, her best friend got married and she got to attend the biggest wedding of 2018. Then she herself got engaged to Nick Jonas and quickly married in the year's most talked-about whirlwind romance. She starred on our first Allure digital cover and has generally just been looking all-around radiant and happy. And to add to that list of awesomeness, she also got to stop by the Vanity Fair Oscar party and looked amazing doing it.

To complement her black Elie Saab dress, Chopra paired up once again with makeup artist Pati Dubroff — the two worked together for the royal wedding with glorious results. The focus for Oscar night? The eyes.

Dubroff was initially inspired by the beadwork on the gown. "In the image, the lighting made the beading look pewter, but when I saw it in person, it was definitely darker and blacker," Dubroff exclusively tells Allure. "But she's wearing these incredible Chopard earrings that are full of diamonds, and so the makeup ended up playing off of those."

Getting Priyanka on board with the look was pretty easy. "After seeing a picture of the dress, I was playing with some face charts that I texted to her," adds Dubroff. "I asked her what she thought of it and she wrote back and said, 'I love it.'"

The shiny bronze-and-black shadow look required strategic layering of colors and textures on Dubroff's part. The first step was to start with a wash of warm bronze-copper cream shadow (Jill Stuart Beauty Iconic Look Eyeshadow in C204). "When someone has a warmer, darker skin tone, sometimes black shadows can go a bit ashy or gray," explains Dubroff. "By adding the warm bronzy color first, it ensured the final look would harmonize with her skin."

Next, using a soft back eyeliner pencil, Dubroff extended and defined the outer corners of Chopra's eyes. "The focus of the black was just on the outer portion of her eyes to create dimension and to elongate the shape of her eyes," says Dubroff. "I basically drew it from the lash lines, past the outer corners, and up a little to the creases, and then blended it out to make a wing without it being too graphic. It was funny, while I was doing her makeup I said to her that this was a little bit more of dramatic elongation than usual — we tend to do round shapes on her or just follow her eye shape."

Next up, Dubroff smoothed the Jill Stuart Beauty Twinkle Glow Multi Stick, which is a clear balm, over the lids to give them a bit of a wet effect, followed by a layer of Lemondhead Spacepaste in Groupie, which is what gave the lids "a pop of shine and a bit of texture" that mimicked the diamonds in Chopra's earrings, says Dubroff. Then before finishing with black waterproof mascara, Dubroff added a bit of shimmery black shadow on top of the glitter.

To complete the look, Dubroff wanted to enhance Chopra's lips while not distracting from the eyes. To do that she used a combination of two products: the Jill Stuart Beauty Dressed Rouge in 04, "which is a denser, fuller-coverage product that acted as a base," she said, and the Jill Stuart Beauty Lip Blossom in 46, a berry-toned gloss that she dabbed on top.
