One look at Priyanka Chopra's long, luscious tresses and you'd assume she was auditioning for a hair commercial. Right? I mean it's smooth, sleek, and, god, it's seriously swoon-worthy. It makes sense Priyanka Chopra is the new face of Pantene. (I mean, have you seen Quantico? Chalk it up to TV magic, but damn, her perfectly kempt 'do is what hair dreams are made of.)

In honor of her new role, we caught up with the actress, who, beginning in the new year, will be joining the fellow ambassadors Selena Gomez and Ronda Rousey to represent the hair-care giant in a series of TV spots and advertisements for its newest Pantene Pro-V’s new Shampoo formulas, to get her to spill her best tips and tricks for ~flawless~ hair, so maybe one day, we, too, can wake up with a gorgeous head of hair like hers. (We said maybe.)

Your hair can be empowering.

"[Partnering with Pantene] is a really great brand fit because the brand talks about being strong and beautiful, and I think I’ve always said you have to be comfortable in your own skin. Beauty is so subjective. Empowering women by believing strength in a woman is what makes her beautiful, makes us a really great fit."

Don't let your hair control you.

"I don’t let my hair tell me what it wants to do. I tell my hair what to do. I travel all around the world, and in my profession, I can’t afford [unruly hair]. So if I have my hair down on the red carpet in Mumbai that it’ll frizz up, or if I’m in the cold in NYC, it’ll go limp, so to avoid that I have amazing hairstylists who work with incredible products. And you need to make sure your hair listens to you, so tell it, 'I don’t have time for your tantrums right now [laughs]."

Always condition your hair.

"When I went to America in my teens in the late '90s, conditioning was one of first few, not American, but Western rituals that I was introduced to—have not stopped since. Now it's become pretty prominent and everyone does it in India now, too, but at that time, we used to have shampoo and conditioner, but never a separate conditioner."

Look to the east for natural hair-care treatments.

"My grandmother used to put coconut oil in my hair [when I was younger]. At that time I used to hate her for it. She used to sit me down twice a week and put coconut oil in my hair and do a scalp massage, and then shampoo it. And that inherently made my hair healthy."

Big hair is a no-no.

"During my pageant days, I think there were things that I used to do at that time that I definitely know I’ll never do again. Like really, really big hair-sprayed hair. Big pageant hair. I think I stopped liking like 10 years ago."

And, finally, don't be afraid to wash your hair daily.

"I used to wash [my hair] every two or three days, because I really like the feeling of fresh hair, but it would really strip my hair dry very often. But I have been using Pantene’s new products, Smooth and Sleek, and I haven’t stopped using it since. I’ve been washing my hair almost every day now because it doesn’t dry it out. It feels super smooth. I’m telling you, try it out for yourself—do not take my word for it."
