Priyanka Chopra Explained Why She Missed the VMAs —and Helped Start That Nick Jonas Meme

The Jonas Brothers celebrated another achievement in their very, very big comeback year when they won an MTV VMA award for Best Pop Video for "Sucker." The brothers starred in the video with their significant others, including Joe's wife Sophie Turner and Kevin's wife Danielle Jonas, both of whom were in attendance alongside their husbands that evening. But one J Sister was missing from the awards ceremony: Nick's wife Priyanka Chopra was nowhere to be found.

However, Priyanka didn't just skip the ceremony because she felt like it or anything like that. The actor told Entertainment Tonight that she was super sick the night of the show and opted to stay home. "I was sick that day, which is why I couldn't go to the VMAs," she explained, adding that the Jonas crew had big plans for the evening. "It was supposed to be this fun night where all six of us got together because we never really get to do it that often. We all have very crazy schedules, and now that the boys are on tour, we meet as the six of us. So, this was supposed to be that fun thing."

But things didn't go according to plan for Priyanka. "We had dinner planned after, and then I was really unwell. I think Nick felt really bad that he was there and I was unwell," she said. "I was watching it from my couch at home and when they won, just seeing his face I felt like, 'Ugh.' I should have been there, but I was so sick, and I saw it on his face."

Thankfully, Photoshop exists, and therefore Priyanka could rewrite history just a bit. The pic of Nick surrounded by his brothers kissing their spouses became a meme, and Priyanka Photoshopped herself into the photo to make it look as though she was there that night, embracing Nick. "That's the reason why I love technology. Is it doesn't matter if I was there or not. The picture makes it look like I was and the internet would believe it," she told ET.
