Princess Kate Shows Her Competitive Side During a Game of Wheelchair Rugby

Catherine, Princess of Wales, celebrated inclusion in sports with a fun game of wheelchair rugby.

The royal and patron of the Rugby Football League, visited Hull, a port city in East Yorkshire, England, this morning to take part in a Rugby League Inclusivity Day. The activity-filled day was hosted by the football league, Hull FC, and the University of Hull.

It comes on the heels the United Kingdom’s National Inclusion Week, which ran from September 25 to October 1 this year. It also comes weeks after this year’s installment of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, where athletes with disabilities compete in different sporting events.

For the day, Princess Kate put on her best sporty outfit: a navy Rugby Football League polo, which she tucked into matching joggers, and white sneakers. She accessorized simply with small gold hoop earrings and wore her signature smoky eye. She put her curled hair into a ponytail for the game.

Kate was given the titles of patron the Rugby Football League and patron of the Rugby Football Union on February 2, 2022, by Queen Elizabeth II. In a statement at the time, a spokesperson said the roles “closely align with Her Royal Highness’ longstanding passion for sport and the lifelong benefits it can provide, both within our communities and on an individual level.”

Earlier this year, as part of her duties, the Princess of Wales traveled to Marseille, France, for the Rugby World Cup. To watch the match between England and Argentina, the royal eschewed the oft-debated “no white after Labor Day” rule in a lovely all-white Alexander McQueen suit, which she previously wore to the Commonwealth Games in August 2022.
