Since marrying into the royal family back in 2011, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has worn tiaras on only a handful of occasions, saving the precious headpieces for big events. If an occasion calls for a tiara, she will often choose to wear the Lover’s Knot Tiara, an elegant diamond-encrusted piece with hanging pearl adornments. Kate reunited with the dazzling headpiece tonight to attend the annual Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace.
She arrived at the reception alongside husband Prince William and in-laws King Charles III and Queen Camilla. To accompany the Lover’s Knot Tiara, Kate additionally wore a glittering long-sleeved evening gown completely covered in blush-pink sequins and accented by silver crystal embellishments at the collar, torso, and waist. She continued to up the ante with her accessories via large silver drop earrings.
The Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was also a favorite of Princess Diana’s, was originally commissioned by Queen Mary in the early 20th century to replicate the design of the 200-year-old Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel.
Kate last wore this tiara in November 2022 to attend a Buckingham Palace reception for South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa. At the time, she styled the topper with a sophisticated white cape dress with gold embroidery by Jenny Packham.
Kate tested out another tiara from the royal archives just last month during a banquet for Yoon Suk Yeol, president of the Republic of Korea. Then, she eschewed her typical Lover's Knot Tiara for the Strathmore Rose Tiara, a floral diadem that had not been publicly seen since the Queen Mother last wore it in the 1930s.
