The Prince and Princess of Wales are taking the rare opportunity to shed their royal attire and show off their outdoorsy side.

Today, Prince William and Princess Kate arrived in Wales, where they will stay for a two-day visit. For their first engagement of the mini tour, the couple met with the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

The team is run entirely by volunteers who respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, year-round. It's also a cause that is close to William's heart (the prince is the royal patron of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and he is known to have worked with such teams during his days as an air ambulance pilot).

The couple partook in training activities with the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. Clad in black turtlenecks, bright red outdoor jackets, gray trousers, and hiking boots, William and Kate took turns participating in medical support exercises, a search dog rescue demonstration, and even abseiling. They additionally spoke with current and former volunteers on the team about their experiences and the organization's 60-year history.

Later today, William and Kate head to the Dowlais Rugby Club, where they will spend more time with members of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, as well as supporters of the organization and fellow local community members.

The couple last visited Wales this past February, when they met with members of the Wales Air Ambulance charity.
