Catherine, Princess of Wales

Princess Kate was admitted to the hospital for a planned abdominal surgery on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The Kensington Palace announced the news on social media channels, sharing that the surgery went well and Kate's recovery will consist of 10 to 14 days in the hospital before returning home to recover with her family.

As for when she'll return to royal duties, the statement noted that she's unlikely to be back before Easter while offering her sincere apologies.

The statement went on to say that Kate "appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."

As a result, Kensington Palace stated that it will only share news and updates on any "significant new information" about Kate and the situation.

In response to the news, some people praised the palace for how it's handling Kate's surgery, with one kind fan commenting, "And that, is how you deal with the press and public. Professionally and gracefully. Wishing her a speedy recovery ❤️."

Many more wished Kate well and hoped for a fast recovery process, though a few noted that it might be a significant surgery due to the fact that she will be staying in the hospital for up to 14 days.

Based on the statement, Kensington Palace is unlikely to offer more details about Kate's health, so fans of the princess will simply have to wait for her return to royal duties.

Meanwhile, Kate will be supported by her husband, Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

This update is the latest major news from the British Royal Family since the scandal at the end of 2023 regarding the book Endgame and controversial comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son Archie allegedly made by two senior royals.
