Princess Eugenie Put Her Spin on Kate Middleton's Royal Headband Trend

From Harper's BAZAAR

  • Princess Eugenie wore a chic twist headband with her tweed dress during her latest royal engagement, reminding us of Kate Middleton's signature hair accessories.

  • Eugenie visited the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where she had scoliosis surgery at the age of 12, with husband Jack Brooksbank and father Prince Andrew.

  • The event also marked Eugenie and Jack's first royal engagement as a married couple.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, who wed in October, made their first joint royal engagement as a married couple yesterday. The duo accompanied her father, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital to celebrate the opening of a new building.

For the daytime event, Princess Eugenie went with a lovely cream tweed skater dress by Maje, according to Town & Country. She completed the ladylike ensemble with black pumps and a bracelet bag, which appears to be one of Chloé's popular designs. Meanwhile, her hubby dressed up in a black suit and red tie.

The best part of her look, however, was arguably the black knotted headband she wore over her auburn lob. The leather hair accessory gave her prim and proper look a light touch of edge.

Eugenie's headpiece was reminiscent of her cousin-in-law Kate Middleton's style. The Duchess of Cambridge has recently stepped out with thick, sometimes '90s-inspired, headbands with some of her more formal royal ensembles, like tea-length frocks and coat dresses.

In November, she wore a thick black velvet style with a green coat while attending Remembrance Day services with the royal family at Westminster Abbey. Then in January, the duchess wore a blue bowed iteration (that matched her coat, of course) for a church service in Sandringham with Prince William.

Princess Eugenie was also named a patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital during her visit. The institution holds a special place in her heart. "This hospital is part of who I am after being operated on when I was 12," she wrote in her Instagram Story. "I was so lucky to have Jack come with me, so I could show him where I had life changing surgery."

Royal fans may recall Eugenie underwent corrective surgery for scoliosis when she was a tween, resulting in a sizable scar running down her spine. She bravely showed off her scar to raise awareness about the condition by sporting a low-cut gown for her royal wedding last fall.
