Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, is sharing a glimpse of their family history.

This week, Spencer posted a photo on Instagram featuring a portrait of his and Princess Diana’s mother, Frances Shand Kydd. The 59-year-old historian revealed that he found the picture in the attic of his childhood home, Althorp House, and revealed that it dates back to when his mom was 20 years old.

The photo appears to be some form of sketch, based on the shading above her left shoulder. Kydd is wearing a flattering dress that features a pleated bodice with jewels along her neck. Her hair is styled in a short, curly 'do that's reminiscent of Princess Diana's signature hairstyle.

In the caption, Spencer explained the significance of the portrait., “We’ve just found this lovely portrait of my mother, under boxes in the @althorphouse attics,” he wrote. “It dates from the mid-1950s, when my mother was around 20 years old. I’d never seen it before, and didn’t know it existed. Amazing what we keep finding up there…”

He even added a variety of hashtags: “#attics #atticfind #familyportrait #mothers #spencerfamily #1950s.”

Followers filled the comments section with messages about the resemblance between Kydd and Princess Diana. One person wrote, “I see so much of your sister in her [heart emoji] what a treasure to find this!” Another added, “It’s lovely and Diana looks so much like her [heart emoji].” Someone else called out their similar features, writing, “I can see your sister in her eyes. Beautiful.”

What a great find.
