The Cambridges may be celebrating Princess Charlotte’s birthday in isolation this year, but it didn’t stop the family from finding a very special way to mark the occasion.

Prince William and Duchess Kate have shared new photos of their daughter today, who turns five on May 2, and the story behind them is especially meaningful.

Taken last month on the Sandringham Estate, the adorable snaps show the fourth-in-line to the throne helping pack up and deliver food packages for isolated pensioners close to their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk.

In a statement, Kensington Palace say that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “are very pleased” to be sharing the four new pictures, which were taken by proud mom Kate as they gave back to their local community during the coronavirus pandemic.

In one of the photographs Charlotte, wearing a houndstooth print dress, can be seen knocking on a door with a bag of pasta—made fresh by the Cambridge family themselves—neatly tied at the top with a rustic bow. And in another frame the young girl can be seen loading backs of non-perishable food items ready for delivery. BAZAAR.com understands that the staff on the Sandringham Estate have been cooking and providing meals for those affected by the ongoing global health crisis for the last five weeks. Prince William and Duchess Kate even spent two-and-a-half hours helping provide and deliver the prepared meals while Prince George and Princess Charlotte tagged along on the donation excursions.

As a confident five-year-old, Charlotte has quickly become a popular character amongst royal watchers. Nicknamed “Lottie” by her mother and father, Kate previously told a fellow parent in 2017 that “she is the one in charge.”

While the Cambridges may in lockdown at the moment, it hasn’t stopped the family from keeping busy. On March 26 and April Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince George were seen joining the #ClapForCarers campaign to celebrate frontline workers against coronavirus. And both Charlotte and George have been keeping up with their school lessons remotely.

Kate opened up about life at home during a recent chat with the BBC, where she admitted they have been baking together and playing with tents outside. “The children have got such stamina, I don’t know how,” she said. “Honestly, you get to the end of the day and you write down the list of all the things that you’ve done in that day. So, you pitch a tent, take the tent down again, cook, bake. You get to the end of the day — they have had a lovely time — but it is amazing how much you can cram into one day that’s for sure.”

Last month Louis gave a peak at his favorite lockdown activities, when new photos celebrating his second birthday showed the prince creating a handprint art project. Like many children across the U.K., the toddler had been making rainbow posters to thank Britain’s National Health Service.

“It’s been ups and downs, like a lot of families self-isolating,” added the duchess. “George is much older than Louis is and things, but they are aware, I’m always surprised. And although you don’t want to scare them and make it too overwhelming, I think it is appropriate to acknowledge it in the simple ways and age-appropriate ways.”
