Princess Charlene of Monaco is no stranger to experimenting with her look. The famously stylish royal has made a name for herself among the fashion set for her ever-changing roster of glamorous outfits, frequently appearing at royal events in eye-catching numbers mixed with sleek, classic pieces.

But while she might change up her fashion regularly, for the last several years, she's stuck closely to her beauty look—specifically, she's stuck to her ultra-short blonde crop hairstyle. So to say that fans were surprised when the princess ditched her signature platinum shade to debut a new brunette look at the F1 Grand Prix in Monaco over the weekend is something of an understatement.

For the big race, the princess opted for a look by one of her go-to designers, Akris. She wore a floor-sweeping navy silk georgette gown accented by front pleats that showed off fluttering rainbow details. The exact dress appears to be sold out now, but the style is still available in a camel shade. She accented the look with a pair of blue pumps, and glam Prada sunglasses.

Later that evening, she and her husband, Prince Albert, attended a gala in honor of the race, for which she wore a dramatic black and white colorblocked, one-shoulder gown by Valentino. She paired the look with black heeled sandals and glittering chandelier earrings, sweeping back her newly-brown pixie for a more coiffed evening look.

The F1 race came after an eventful few days for the Monegasque royal family. Earlier this month, several members of the House of Grimaldi, including Grace Kelly's grandsons Andrea Casiraghi and Pierre Casiraghi, announced that they are working on "a series of movies and tv shows on the history of Monaco starting with the Grimaldi Family origin story."
